Awards Keep Rolling In For Atlassian

5:17 pm

I haven’t heard form the boys from Atlassian for a little bit. That’s probably because they’ve been busy racking up even more awards to put on their mantelpiece.

First of all, in late August, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP announced Atlassian as the winner of the Business of the Year in the 2008 City of Sydney Business Awards.

In announcing the award, the Lord Mayor focused on not only the business success of Atlassian, but also their business practices:

Atlassian, a small software company started by two young graduates in 2002, was praised not only for its business success, but also its commitment to the community and the wellbeing of its staff. This young company encourages employees to ride to work, donates software licenses to charities and has allocated one percent of all staff working hours, revenue and equity to charitable causes.

As if that wasn’t enough, the NSW Minister for State Development, Ian Macdonald, today congratulated the co-founders of  Atlassian - Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar - for winning the NSW Award last night at the prestigious annual Pearcey Foundation ICT Awards.

The Pearcey awards, named in honour of Dr Trevor Pearcey who was a pioneer in the field of computing both in Australia and globally, are awarded to young achievers who “have demonstrated innovative and pioneering achievement and contribution to research and development in technology early in the careers.”

What the Atlassian team should be happiest about is the fact that these aren’t awards that are based on revenues, or user growth or profitability. These are awards that recognise companies that succeed and give back to the community in one way or another.

Well done Mike, Scott and all of the Atlassian team. You should be very proud of these awards.
