iMeepo - Organise Your Activities And Interests

5:18 pm

iMeepo is a recently launched startup that “allows people to find, organise, manage and promote activities related to a specific interest area.”

It sits somewhere in the middle of a few existing Aussie activity/interest-based startups - Sports Passion (for sports), My Guest List (for event promoters) and even recent Startup Camp Sydney 2 project - Activity Horizon.

The site has options of public (events not run by the poster), managed (from what i can gather public events managed by the poster) and private (where you need an invitation to join) events that people can post or join up to. Within those activity pages you can get good info on all aspects of an activity - from details, to messages, to photos/comments etc. Actually from that perspective it’s probably quite similar to US-based meetup.com in its execution.

A couple of issues.

  1. I hate sites that make you sign up to get past the landing page when they’re not in beta. If I was the iMeepo team I’d change that ASAP.
  2. There’s not a mountain of content on the site at the moment so if you’re jumping on to actually find events you might be a bit disappointed.
  3. As with the other sites I mentioned, there will always be the threat of Facebook as the world’s largest (even if it’s not the best) online group management tool.

None of these points, however, take away from the fact that the site does what it tries to do well and free of charge.

If you’re organising an activity it might be worth including iMeepo in your consideration set. With a bit more content and a few tweaks here and there they might end up with a really useful activity site
